Rare Earth

Motown named its offshoot label Rare Earth after this band—the first big act signed by the label with only white members (though they were subsequently dissed in Gil Scott-Heron's 1970 poem "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised"). Tonight you can expect to get down to the band's funksome catalog, including its big '71 hit, "I Just Want to Celebrate."
