Saxist Matana Roberts, one of the local jazz scene's most imaginative composer-conceptualists, rounds up friends and collaborators for a night of cathartic improv in memory of Michael Brown, the Ferguson, MO, African-American teen whose August shooting at the hands of a white policeman sparked nationwide outrage. Meshell Ndegeocello—with whom Roberts appeared at the recent Afropunk fest—Ches Smith, Henry Grimes, Fay Victor and Matt Lavelle are just a few of the many heavy-duty players on board. All proceeds benefit the Michael Brown Memorial Fund.
