After years of entrusting its programs to artists who've booked two-week and monthlong series, the Stone revises its booking philosophy to showcase single artists in weeklong residencies. Up first is powerful avant-jazz pianist Matt Shipp, who opens on Apr 2 with his blazing trio featuring bassist Michael Bisio and drummer Whit Dickey. Duos follow: on Apr 3 Shipp tangles with saxophonists Ivo Perelman and Darius Jones, and on Apr 4 with poet Steve Dalachinsky and sax man Rob Brown. The trio returns for the weekend, playing on Apr 5–7.
