A much-sought-after drummer who's every bit as impressive as a bandleader, Matt Wilson specializes in expressive inside-outside jazz accented with wit and fire. During this week's run, the ebullient percussionist celebrates his 50th birthday with a variety of bands: his trumpet-fronted quartet Arts & Crafts (Oct 2); an expanded version of his eponymous four-piece combo (Oct 3); Open House (Oct 4), a fascinating new (to us, anyway) group with saxist Joe Lovano, guitarist Mary Halvorson, vibraphonist Stefon Harris and bassist Peter Washington; and a sure-to-be-dazzling trio (Oct 5) with pianist Geri Allen and bassist Buster Williams.
