He's chiefly known as a fusion heavyweight, but Return to Forever drummer Lenny White is just as capable of supple small-combo swing. He'll be demonstrating his range during this Jazz Standard visit, which opens with a starry group featuring Patrice Rushen and Ron Carter (Dec 19, 20), then twists into a funky affair with Rushen, Headhunters reedist Bennie Maupin, Miles Davis's "lead bassist" Foley and Weather Report bass alum Victor Bailey (Dec 21, 22).
