In a series of late-night sets at the uptown jazz club Smoke, she promotes her newest album, House of David, applying her impressive chops to songs by glam-rock icon David Bowie. Rushes of bull dyke-in-a–“China Girl”–shop aggression alternate with moments of understated tenderness.
