Like the bands on New York’s Daptone label, Kings Go Forth is an old-world soul act that was born into a digital age. Too young to have fully witnessed their genre’s glory days, the musicians are hell-bent on re-creating them. The acts diverge sharply, however, in their locale. Kings Go Forth is entrenched in the unlikely soul hub of Milwaukee, where the group’s founders—bassist Andy Noble and singer Black Wolf—are local music fixtures. They come to New York with a hot new album, The Outsiders Are Back (featuring cover art by outsider artist Mingering Mike).
