Members of the Jupiter Symphony with guests pianist Alexander Kobrin and violinist Xiao-Dong Wang present three works by Russian composers in the context of 19th- and 20th-century Germany. Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations was written for a German cellist who gave its premiere, and Nikolai Medtner (they'll play his Piano Quartet in C Major) was heavily influenced by the German poet Goethe. Alexander Borodin is the other side of the same coin, consciously working against the influences of German romanticism and song. They'll play his 1854 String Quintet in F minor.
