This Canadian duo got in early on the current vogue among indie types for retro-’80s soft-pop sounds: Last Exit, Junior Boys’ ace 2004 debut, reclaimed the unlikely influence of Peter Cetera long before the upcoming Bon Iver disc could arrive. The Boys—Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus—are back with a new record, called Big Black Coat, and the pair’s flair for period detail still wows. Canadian singer-producer Jessy Lanza, whose captivating debut album, Pull My Hair Back, led many to anoint her as one of the future stars of both alt-R&B and bass music, sets the stage.
