Following up on his sprawling 60th-birthday festivities, John Zorn sets up shop at NYC's premier jazz haunt. The focus is on the Book of Angels series of his Masada songbook, which blends soulful Jewish themes with elements of freebop, fusion, chamber music and more, depending on who's playing. In a multinight expansion of Zorn's celebrated marathon gigs, each night features a different artist or group delving into the oeuvre, with the maestro's own classic Masada quartet—with trumpeter Dave Douglas, bassist Greg Cohen and drummer Joey Baron—turning up on Sept 6. (Zorn also sits in during the late sets on Sept 3, 4, 5 and 7.)See
