The 1971 revue Inner City is a fascinating document of its era. Adapted from Eve Merriam's satirical poem collection The Inner City Mother Goose, set to eclectic music by Helen Miller and directed by Hair provocateur Tom O'Horgan, the show—which tackled issues including racism, violence, poverty and teenage pregnancy—ran for only a few months, but won a Tony for star Linda Hopkins. The cast of the concert version at Feinstein's/54 Below features Annie Golden, Natasha Yvette Williams, Ray Shell, Cheryl Pepsii Riley and original cast member Allen Nichols.
