Fountains of Wayne + Mike Viola

Fountains of Wayne is one of the few contemporary rock bands whose direct lyrics tell stories, rather than reach for vague (and generally lazy) imagery. This is admirable—and frontmen Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood write snappy pop fit for ’70s radio, or at least a Ben Folds album. Tonight they celebrate the release of Sky Full of Holes, out in early August.
