Though Memphis quintet Ex-Cult draws equally from trashy garage rock—see the Ty Segall–produced debut—and spastic hardcore, the abrasive textures and reckless energy on last year's Cigarette Machine EP lean heavily into those latter punk impulses. In the opening set, Pop. 1280 peddles unsettling, industrial-tinged art punk which nods to the Birthday Party, Cop Shoot Cop and other similarly misanthropic acts.
