It's been a heavy year for funky, soulful jazz bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding, including a high-profile live date with Prince and, more unexpectedly, an upset win in the Best New Artist category at this year's Grammy Awards. Feverish Bieberites notwithstanding, Spalding's win confirmed that once in a while, Grammy recognizes big, bold talent. Tonight she leads tunes from her ambitious recent album, Chamber Music Society, which isn't remotely the staid creation its title implies.
