Dr. Lonnie Smith

One of Blue Note's premier organists in the ’60s, Lonnie Smith has reinvented himself in recent years with an updated repertoire (see 2003's Boogaloo to Beck) and a heady, borderline-psychedelic approach to soul jazz. During this roomy run, the beturbaned veteran digs in with two different groups: a trio (June 2–4) and Evolution (June 5–7), an expanded group including a vocalist and two drummers.
