Crystal Stilts touch on the Jesus and Mary Chain, Joy Division and, naturally, the Velvet Underground; although the group can lack for original thought, it has a surfeit of panache. Joining the Stilts crew are fellow Brooklyners Beach Fossils, who go a little more hi-fi with their psychedelic surf rock on the new EP What a Pleasure.
