Counting Crows certainly has as many rabid detractors as cultish fans—as for us, we fall somewhere in the middle. Sure, Adam Duritz & Co. have a penchant for the sappy, but at their best (see 1993's August and Everything After), their brand of roots-rock-lite can be surprisingly poignant.
