Charming Hostess

Jewlia Eisenberg has set texts by philosopher Walter Benjamin to music in Charming Hostess; if that sounds overly heavy, you probably haven't heard her innovative mix of Jewish, Bulgarian and African roots music with punk energy. Here the Oakland ensemble presents the Bowls Project, based on texts found in so-called incantation bowls, artifcats from the ancient Middle East.
