The secret to Blue October frontman Justin Furstenfeld's Jekyll-and-Hyde–like onstage transformations seems clear at first: Strap a guitar on him and he's a young Peter Gabriel with manscara and mood lighting. Take his ax away, however, and Furstenfeld spews Reznoresque self-loathing and rap-rock rage. The best moments lie somewhere in between, as the singer vents his demons while his band drags Dave Matthews through Linkin Park. Expect to hear from the group's newie, Sway, at the Sept 14 show.
