Senegalese rocker Baaba Maal has been making more traditional-sounding albums of late, but returning to his roots hasn't altered his approach to staging an exciting modern-day show. Tonight Maal presents Tales from the Sahel, an evening-length collaboration with journalist Chris Salewicz that explores the roots and routes of Senegalese storytelling—and since his regular percussionist was unable to make the trip, Maal will incorporate local players into his American sojourn.
