North Dakota's Ana Egge has been dubbed “the folk Nina Simone” by no less than Lucinda Williams, and has an album produced by Steve Earle in the pipeline. Sahara Smith, meanwhile, is another one of bluesman T Bone Burnett's young protégés, a Texan singer who wraps her gorgeously burnished voice around dusky, countryish numbers.
