Currently celebrating 66 years on the planet and a half century in the music biz, singer, keyboardist, guitarist, songwriter and producer Al Kooper is a musical lifer whose discography includes enough high-powered credits to keep four or five artists occupied. After a seminal mid-’60s stint backing Bob Dylan, Kooper was a key member of the ahead-of-its-time Blues Project. He led the original Blood, Sweat and Tears, and worked as sideman and/or producer with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and Cream. Tonight's free gig at Hudson Square is a pretty low-key fete—nevertheless expect fine things from Kooper's rockin' trio.
