Here's a birthday party you won't want to weasel your way out of attending. Over the past decade, Brooklyn record label Mexican Summer has carved a niche for itself by releasing inventive music from a range of genres, from rock and folk to ambient. Many of its projects could reasonably pass as artifacts from an LSD-soaked ’60s commune; they set a mood and feel familiar without veering into cliché. At this ten-hour concert, performers include ambient musician Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, pop prankster Ariel Punk, postpunk outfit Pill (pictured), psych-rock duo Tonstartssbandht and the NYC debut of folkie FJ McMahon, whose rare 1969 album the label reissued last year. Advanced tickets went fast, but 100 will be released at the door of Pioneer Works in Red Hook.
