Toddlers and preteens can build up the (super!) soccer skills they need to excel in after-school soccer programs, plus qualities— like teamwork and focus—that translate to the classroom, too. The smallest tykes (ages 21⁄2 to 5) find the two-and-a-half-hour indoor minicamp a blast; it’s split between learning basic skills, like dribbling and passing the ball, and (ahem) tackling colorful arts projects. Older kids (ages 6 to 12) will dig the Kick It camp, where they partner to work on techniques, run drills and go toe-to-toe in fun scrimmages that emphasize a love of the game over winning or losing. In addition to kicking the ball around, children burn energy during tag- team games, talent showcases and relay races. Ages 2.5–12.
