The newest kid on the block is this 90-room boutique hotel, which opened in July 2016 in the NoMad district. Its lobby preserves the history of its 1905 landmark Beaux-Arts structure, complemented by contemporary art with modern renovations and amenities. In highlighting what’s referred to as a ‘residential style of living,’ rooms feature wood cabinets and furniture, handwoven patchwork Turkish rugs and plush velvet headboards. Amenities include luxury 300-thread count Frette bedding, bath/beauty products by C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries, 24-hour room service, complimentary high speed Wi-Fi and in-room iPad minis. At its Lobby Bar, baristas serve up handpicked cocktails and coffees prepared by HGU New York’s in-house inebriators. Its restaurant, The NoMad Kitchen, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The 1905 Lounge puts on a regular calendar of entertainment, featuring sounds of jazz and hip hop. HGU New York partnered with Gallery 151, a premier contemporary art gallery in lower Manhattan, to showcase curated pieces drawing inspiration from urban backdrops of New York City’s emerging arts and featuring icons such as Fab 5 Freddy and Liz Markus.
