Performance art meets primping at this theatrical salon, run by former pop singer Michael Fredo, who at the height of his career toured with Norah Jones, Britney Spears and Lenny Kravitz as their opening act. Fredo parlayed his musical talents into this Parisian-themed space adorned with red salon chairs and chic striped end tables repurposed as hairstyling stations; an oversize fish tank in the front window that’s home to baby red-eared slider turtles, a blue lobster and several dozen tropical fish; a kooky display of hundreds of troll dolls from Fredo’s impressively large personal collection; and a book-strewn upright piano, where Fredo performs everything from jazz standards to Disney theme songs at the top of every hour. Although it sounds gimmicky, the services for both sexes, offered by a team of six stylists, are more than just an act: In addition to cuts (men $40, women $65–$80), ladies can get single-process color ($80), partial ($140–$165) and full highlights ($175–$195), deep-conditioning treatments ($25), blowouts ($40–$55) and Pravana hair-straightening (a formaldehyde-free alternative to keratin, $225–$275), while guys can treat themselves to bang ($15) and beard trims ($15). Clients can even have healthy snacks like carrot chips ($4) and fruit smoothies ($7), prepared at Food Liberation Health Market next door and delivered straight to their chair.
