Hairstylist Benedict Yeo’s eponymous salon is a welcome respite from its edgy Nolita brethren: The small, subterranean space has a homey vibe, thanks to its Baroque-inspired decor (ornate gold-framed mirrors hang alongside oversize clocks), and white noise replaces a thumping indie-rock soundtrack. “Most salons look very clinical, and I wanted to make this more cozy,” explains Yeo. The 20-year industry veteran trained at Vidal Sassoon in London and styled tresses for the likes of The Sunday Times before deciding to strike out on his own “while I still have the energy to do it.” At the salon’s five stations, Yeo and his staff offer “classic, simple and precise” haircuts for men ($60–$80) and women ($80–$100), blowouts ($40–$60), coloring ($60–$280), bang trims ($20), sophisticated updos (Yeo specializes in chic chignons, $80–$150), frizz-eliminating keratin smoothing treatments ($60–$120) and conditioning treatments ($25–$60) using Label.m products, Toni & Guy’s upscale hair-care line that’s favored in the U.K. Take note: Unless you have short, whisper-thin strands, prepare to pay a premium: Services are priced by hair’s length and density.
