Today and tomorrow, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing cases that could extend marriage rights for same-sex couples at the federal level—though both cases also deal with the court's jurisdiction, since California and the Obama administration have elected not to defend Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act, respectively. To kick off this potentially historic week, Hundreds of New Yorkers (who have had local same-sex marriage rights since 2011) marched from the Stonewall Inn to Washington Square Park to voice their support for equality.
