Head to Bushwick for the opening night of independent artist Macon Reed's sculpted installation paying homage to a vanishing institution: the dyke drinks den. With a back bar, neon-lit signs and even a pool table built entirely by hand using rudimentary materials like cardboard and clay, the immersive exhibit will raise awareness about gender and sexuality issues, and pose the question of why lesbian-identified gathering places are rapidly closing. Reed will be on-site to discuss her project, which will be showcased at the gallery through September, culminating with a free-beer bash on the 25th.
