Prehistoric slabs of Himalayan salt may look beautiful, but they can be intimidating to cook with. At this demo and tasting, Mark Bitterman or Andy Schloss of the Meadow—a gourmet food shop specializing in salts—will show you how to prepare and serve food on large, heated blocks of the stuff. You'll taste salt-block-cooked truffled eggs, flank steak and even chocolate fondue that's been melted in bowl-shaped salt rock. Gratis bubbly and red wine will help you wash down the samples.
