Light-years away from the somber tone of Adrian Lyne’s silly remake, Kubrick’s take on Nabokov’s masterpiece is a brilliant, twitchy black comedy, featuring Peter Sellers as a quietly maniacal Quilty, and Shelley Winters (never better) as the increasingly frustrated Charlotte Haze.
