Cul-de-Sac

Polanski’s mordant comedy about a married couple whose island retreat is invaded by gangsters has awesome b&w images to spare, courtesy of DP Gilbert Taylor. But the film is so determinedly studied that what might have been harrowing is instead merely intriguing.
