Michela Marino Lerman’s Love Movement: We Insist!

Harlem Stage's series Black Arts Movement: Examined turns its spotlight on music this month with a look back at Max Roach's We Insist!: Freedom Now Suite, the jazz legend's 1960 collaboration with poet Oscar Brown, Jr. and singer Abbey Lincoln. The piece concerns the Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil Rights movement. Here, it is reconceived by tap-dance marvel Michela Marino Lerman and her hybrid music-dance ensemble, Love Movement.
