Germaine Acogny: Mon élue noire (My Black Chosen One)—Sacre #2

Shortly after presenting Pina Bausch's famous account of Rite of Spring, the Next Wave Festival presents a markedly different perspective on Igor Stravinsky's score: a collaboration between Senegal's Acogny, a major figure in the past half century of contemporary African dance, and choreographer Olivier Dubois, of France's Ballet du Nord. The solo piece places Acogny within a rectangular box, and focuses on colonialist ideas about African bodies.
