Compañía Nacional de Danza, now led by the erstwhile New York City Ballet principal Joaquin de Luz, makes its Joyce debut with Johan Inger's new choreographic account of Prosper Mérimée's novella about a Romani temptress who consorts with bullfighters, robbers and other troublesome types. Set to music from Bizet's popular opera (arranged by Rodion Shchedrin), this version offers a stripped-down, contemporary look at the story.
