The New Zealand company Black Grace, whose approach to contemporary dance incorporates Samoan and Maori performance traditions, returns to the Joyce debut with a trio of works by founder Neil Ieremia: a world premiere set to the Vivaldi cantata Gloria, a piece inspired by the art of the painter Fatu Feu’u, and a new version of the company's early Handgame (1995), which creates live body percussion through a fusion of Samoan slap dance (fa’ataupati) and seated dance (sasa).
