Author Elizabeth Kendall and choreographer Troy Schumacher excavate a young, pre-America Balanchine. Kendall reads from her book Balanchine and the Lost Muse, which recalls the choreographer's life in Georgia and Russia, with particular focus on his work with dancer Lidia Ivanova. Schumacher creates two new pieces inspired by Balanchine's lost early works: a suite performed by Rebecca Krohn and Jared Angle, and a pas de deux for himself and Ashley Laracey for which he will compose the music.
