You may know Jason Weitzman as the madman who hosted a stand-up show in his aunt's van while it was moving, or for his recent comedy showcase in which comics and audiences jogged together from start to finish. Now, to complete his "Plight of the Audience" trilogy, the brilliant gonzo performer invites you to to share some laughs—in the ocean. Head to Beach 105 at Rockaway Beach, get down to your swimsuit, and walk five feet into the water to join comics and daring audience members alike for observational jokes and classic stand-up at the shore.
Comics Justin Linville and Mary Martin will be on-deck with sets, along with improv group the Subs and a few game surprise performers. Though a lifeguard will be on duty, Weitzman recommends that guests brush up on their swimming skills, as it's likely that some sets will be performed while the group treads water.
Much has been said recently about inherent privilege in the comedy community, particularly among straight cis men. Weitzman has proven that he's not only funny and inventive, but willing to sing for his supper—and if he's going to exert himself to the point of danger, his audience will be joining him every step of the way. We can't wait to see what sort of hilarious terror he brews next in makeshift arenas all over town.
