Stand-up comedy used to be defined by insecurity—or at least a performance of insecurity by men, in seats of massive privilege. But for schlubby dudes in sweatpants, the party is over. Enter Marie Faustin and Sydnee Washington, a duo of mercilessly funny stand-ups changing the standards for how to come correct in comedy. They may look like models, but Faustin and Washington are always down get messy—just try them.
On their outrageous podcast The Unofficial Expert, they giddily grill their guests, and at their live shows, no audience member is safe. It's an attack on privilege that the crowd simultaneously fears and craves—when you sit with the popular girls at school, you better not try any disrespect.
Though the duo co-hosts Comedy at the Knitting Factory every Sunday with Aminah Imani, you can catch them at Union Hall for a bash featuring Molly Austin, Petey Deabreu and Matt Rogers.
