In its early-’80s heyday, the Roxy was one of those near-mythical clubs that merged uptown and downtown culture—the kind of place where B-boys rubbed shoulders with art punks, and where Johnny Dynell could be found deejaying alongside Afrika Bambaataa. Thirty years later, Highline Ballroom is hosting a salute to the influential boîte, with the focus on the uptown side of the equation: Bam himself will be on the decks, as will Kool DJ Red Alert and Jazzy Jay.
