Jeff Mills has been at the forefront of Detroit techno for so long he doesn't even need more critical approval or praise. Though this all comes naturally for the Wizard, of course. He's such a legend in American (and global) techno that many wonder if he's actually human: Is he part robot? Part alien? Gandalf? Regardless, the forward-moving pioneer has an unbelievable résumé and is ranked alongside the biggest American names in techno—Robert Hood, Carl Craig, Joey Beltram. But Mills is a different species of Detroit-bred talent. He's mysterious, transcending the boundaries of electronic music into the unknown. One of the founding fathers of Detroit's legendary Underground Resistance, Mills has had residencies at clubs in Detroit, New York, Berlin (Tresor) and Chicago. In the words of fellow Detroit native Eminem: "If you ain’t listened to the Wizard / You ain’t have a fucking clue what you was missing.”
