Turntablist Hess headlines this night at the Good Rooms Bad Room, which highlights the sounds of Detroit. The DeepLabs label head is an expert at infusing dub techno with a kind of substance and heft that's sometimes hard to find in that minimalist style; it's not for nothing that he's released music on labels as varied as Kenneth Christiansen's Echocord, Carl Craig's Planet E and Omar-S's FXHE. "Detroit Sludge" pioneer Marshall Applewhite plays an opening set of slow-moving, acerbic, low-frequency soundscapes.
