It’s been eons since Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff, together known as the U.K.’s Way Out West, have deejayed together here in NYC—but thanks to Sleepy & Boo’s Basic NYC bash, the superstar duo will be spinning at Le Poisson Rouge this Saturday. The pair were synonymous with progressive house through the ’90s and early ’00s (back when “progressive house” was a thing); Warren and Wisternoff’s sometimes ethereal sounds, laced around busy breakbeats (and later, rhythms of a four-to-the-floor nature) were among the most popular the genre had to offer. Both still favor a somewhat spaced-out vibe, but with prog-house’s excesses largely excised from their repertoires. The duo has kept up with current clubland tropes, too—the first third of Wisternoff’s set, for instance, isn’t that far off from the kind of deliberate house that slo-mo disco dons such as 6th Borough Project or Mark E might play. It’s surely going to be a packed house on Saturday, so we’d advise picking up your advance tickets pronto.
Basic NYC: Way Out West is at Le Poisson Rouge Saturday, March 31.
