Louis Langrée returns to lead the summer's sprightly celebration of First Viennese School heavyweights. Mozart's Prague symphony comes in a program Aug 5 and 6. Concerts on Aug 8 and 9 bring in some guest stars: conductor Osmo Vänskä and violin star Yuja Wang (who will tackle the solo part on Shostakovich's Concerto No. 1 for piano and trumpet). Beethoven's Ninth Symphony takes control on Aug 12 and 13. The Berlioz Symphonie fantastique returns, with other pieces by Gluck and Mozart, on Aug 15 and 16. Soloist Joshua Bell joins the festival orchestra on Aug 19 and 20, in Mozart's Sinfonia concertante for violin and viola. And to close out the festival, the orchestra will present Mozart's Requiem on Aug 22 and 23. In between the house band's appearances, other groups appear in the festival lineup (some boasting rather experimental fare). See mostlymozart.org for complete details and information on ticket-package deals.
