The intrepid new-music series continues with an evening of fresh works by composers Sam Pluta and Robert Honstein. The former's Chain Reactions/Five Events, for string quartet and laptop, moves from improvised moments to fully notated passages. Honstein presents the complete, live premiere of his wordless song cycle RE: you, inspired by the world of online dating. The composer doesn't shy away from the vagaries of disembodied courtship—his piece contains moments of hopefulness and vigor, as well as the sounds of private psyche-strain (plus moments of surprising beauty). The starry cast of new-music groups includes the Mivos Quartet, Concert Black, and members of the ETHEL, Newspeak and Color Field ensembles.
