Rising-star cellist Karen Ouzounian plays Janacek, Kodaly and Beethoven with pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute on Thu 18 to get this week's Caramoor festivities underway. On Fri 19, the Amphion Quartet bookends a world premiere by Yevgeniy Sharlat among standards by Schubert and Beethoven. Bel Canto at Caramoor presents the original French version of Verdi's Don Carlos, starring Jennifer Check, Jennifer Larmore and James Valenti, on Sat 20 (see caramoor.org for a full slate of preliminary events with peerless critic Andrew Porter and other experts). On Sun 21, the Emerson String Quartet introduces new cellist Paul Watkins in works by Beethoven and Britten. Caramoor's Young Artists present Verdi's complete songs on Thu 25; and the 20th-annual Caramoor Jazz Festival follows on Fri 26–Sun 28.
