New York is celebrating its first "Car-Free Earth Day" today. If you look out a window, you'll see the event isn't a complete success, but the city is encouraging as many New Yorkers as possible to participate in a one-day ban on driving in the city.
Along some streets, however, "Car-Free Earth Day" has been declared mandatory fun. Broadway, between the Flatiron Building and Union Square, Laguardia Place between W. 3rd and W 4th and Wadsworth Avenue between 173rd and 177th streets are all completely closed to traffic today.
An added bonus of the earth-friendly event is that Citi Bike is offering free rides all day today. Head to this page to submit your email and get a free Day Pass. Then start pedaling as fast as you can before it starts raining around 7pm.
Happy Earth Day!
