In my limited imagination, glamping—or "glamorous camping"—involves people shelling out cash to reenact Rory Gilmore's assignment covering the Life and Death Brigade. Apparently, I'm not that far off. As the trend of fancy-shmancy camping gets more popular (and profitable) with overnight yurts popping up in NYC, companies are looking to turn up the ritz factor on some of New York's best camping destinations.
Starting August 11, you'll be able to experience Terra Glamping, a glamping experience at Gateway National Recreation area by Fort Tilden Beach. At any of five designated zones, you'll be able to crash in 12-by-14-foot safari-style tents complete with rugs, lounge on memory foam queen beds with linen sheets, delight in s'mores and a continental breakfast, and wash up with real shower and bathroom facilities. You'll be provided towels and robes, and you won't even need to build your own campfire. It's like camping with the Weasleys.
If you're really looking to take your glamping to the most Veronica Lodge levels of opulence, you can opt in for personal chefs, mixologists, adventure guides, DJs and even butlers to shepherd your experience. But only if you're into subtlety.
You can book a tent for $200, with reservations running through September.
