You wont spot any Citi Bikes, smartphones or illegal hoverboards in this footage of New York. The impressively clear HD footage was actually shot around the city in 1993 and there’s nary an apple headphone in sight.
The video was filmed as a demo for the Japanese HD market all the way back in the early ‘90s and it has the shots of questionable hair choices and ubiquitous windbreakers to prove it.
Among the recognizable landmarks featured in the retro vid are the Staten Island Ferry, the World Trade Center before 9/11, the South Street Seaport, Times Square and the Brooklyn Bridge.
A lovely aerial shot of Central Park looks like it’s about to descend onto a twirling Maria von Trapp in Sheep Meadow, but it ends up just showing a girl staring at a paper, an old man sleeping and a super hip ‘90s squirrel. (Spoiler.)
