It's hard to believe that it's been one year since the massacre that took the lives of 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. New York's LGBTQ community will come together tonight to honor the victims and their families at a memorial hosted by Gays Against Guns—the group behind the haunting victim's march during Pride 2016.
More than 20 bars, including Henrietta Hudson, Mickey Spillane's, Cubbyhole and Phoenix, are inviting patrons to gather outside of The Stonewall Inn at 6:30pm, where demonstrations will run until 9pm. Announced speakers and performers include Pulse survivor Keinon Carter, the Lavender Light Gospel Choir, a capella group Passing Notes and musician Aaron Paul. Forty-nine participants will be veiled in white with the names and images of Pulse victims written on their chests.
The group will disperse to neighborhood bars for drink specials and pre-Pride fun after the Memorial. You can learn more here.
